In
any aspect of life, one of the most important aspects is most definitely the
role of a leader. Without strong leadership, it can be hard for anything to get
done correctly. While many people are capable at doing what is needed in most
roles, some need a little bit of leadership to help cajole them over the line.
Leadership, though, is quite a hard trait to find. What, though makes up the
main methods and mind-sets of a strong leader?
To
find out, we spoke to some leaders to get a perspective on what they believe
made them successful.
We
spoke to Jordan Sage, an international entrepreneur,
spoke about the role of leadership on rather philosophical terms.
“Leaders
are forged by their own internal fire and authentic passion,” he began, “They
are comfortable in uncharted waters, they often blaze trails, walk alone, and
reinvent themselves in new environments they enter or create to build around
their competitive edge. They delegate and they are confident in people they
hire and train thereby gaining valuable time to build new ventures.”
It’s
quite an interesting take on leadership, for sure. The most reliable of leaders
are always capable of not only showing direct innovation, but fantastic
delegation skills to help ensure everyone is pulling their weight.
We also spoke to
Michelle Brodsky. As the co-founder of CashLady,
it’s fair to say that her insight would be well appreciated on such a subject.
“A great leader is
a person who can motivate people through listening to them, understanding their
needs and aligning their goals with the company goals.”
Certainly a trait
of all successful leaders is their ability to not only understand what they
need, but what others around them also require. Michelle continued on the same
theme, showcasing the importance of a leader who can listen and learn.
“This serves the
interest of both the employee and the company and creates a win-win situation.
Integrity and honesty are fundamental. A leader who leads without integrity
will eventually lose the trust and confidence of the team. Winning that trust
back will be an uphill struggle.”
Another
interesting insight was put forward in an interview by Mr. Manuel Herranz, the
owner of Pangeanic. In
a forthright interview on the question of leader, he put across some very
important points regarding the energy required for strong leadership.
“A great leader is
always passionate about what he or she does. Yet, he is aware that he will not
achieve his goals if the team around him does not match his vision. He may
fail, and honestly explain what went wrong and what has been learnt. That will
make him gain respect and build on.”
The importance of
being fearless about failure is something that featured strongly when looking
at so many different aspects of leadership.
We’re absolutely
delighted to have taken in such a wide range of opinion during this discussion.
Another person who we spoke to was Nicolaos Moubayed, a Digital Marketing
Consultant from London. He was pretty open when we spoke to him
about what he believes makes a successful leader.
He began by
explaining the importance of being able to overcome hurdles. “Looking at
leaders from all walks of life and all kind of industries, the #1 skill that
stands out and that is consistent among extraordinary leaders is the skill to
persist and conquer adversity.”
“It is in the
process of overcoming tough times through creative solutions that helps leaders
to emerge stronger, more resilient, more committed and more sure of themselves
and their purpose. It is this process itself that cultivates the leaders’
distinctive qualities.“
“The same way
crucibles were used to turn base metals into gold in medieval times,” he added,
“overcoming adversity is the crucible that turns leaders into extraordinary
ones.”
In thoroughly
engaging discussion, we were able to gather much about what has helped other
leaders reach the apex of their professional destination. What do you think
makes a strong leader?
