Each
breast is a compound mammary gland composed of milk-producing cells and ducts surrounded by fatty tissue and ligaments, all richly supplied by blood and lymph vessels. The milk-producing glands oracini are contained in discreet
areas called lobules which are separated from one another by supporting fibrous
and fatty tissue.Milk produced in a lobule passes into a ducts eventually unite
to form about 15 to 20 larger ducts which each discharge milk through a separate
opening in the nipple. Behind the nipple, the large ducts are expanded in
places to form reservoirs called ampullae where milk is stored prior to
